Description: A striking looking white building, Grade II listed, with neat architectural lines standing beside a busy crossroads in the centre of Whitchurch village. There is plenty of sectioned off and partly covered pavement seating for al fresco drinking while there is an open courtyard at the rear. A few steps up through the entrance take you into a charming interior where the bar as a fireplace with a log burner as its focal point. Opposite there is a cosy snug with a few comfortable chairs and well-stocked book shelves. Throughout are many pictures and a few artefacts on the walls. Many of the pictures depict scenes of Whitchurch village and old Cardiff of yesteryear. Some cartoons are naturally linked to the drinks industry with the former owning brewery, Brains, featured among them. At the rear is an attractive dining room where the skittle alley used to be. The menu is both wide ranging and appealing and clearly a draw for diners seeking cuisine of a standard above the norm for a pub (food served 12noon – 10pm). Quiz nights to raise funds for local charities are held. A note about disabled access: a ramp and staff assistance is available to negotiate the steps at the front entrance, thereafter passage to the rooms and disabled WC should be straightforward.
